Windows on Earth on the International Space Station
With the support of the Association of Space Explorers, an international organization of individuals who have flown in space, TERC has begun work on Phase II of the Windows on Earth development platform. Phase II involves expansion of the current Windows on Earth capabilities so they can also be used by astronauts on the International Space Station as an earth observation tool.
In the Future
Once tested on the Garriott mission, we will revise the software to enhance its on-orbit utility for potential long-term use in space. We have been in active discussions with NASA, Johnson Space Center Earth Observation group, the Space Operations Computing team (developers of the targeting software currently on ISS) and several astronauts about this prospect. We are designing the tool and its testing with ability for extended use on ISS and to provide long-term public access to photographs from other astronauts and other missions.
